4550 S. Maryland Parkway Suite N
Las Vegas, NV 89141
702-798-4552
When: February 21st, 7:30pm
Cost: $5 and a plate of food to share
I'm excited that Sandi is bringing her students from the LVAC to
perform. There are gong to be lots of new faces to our community
there...I would love it if those of you who are regular attendees
help make them feel welcome.
Join us for an evening of dancing, music, community, potluck food,
shopping, and fun. Bring your sultry spirit, pillows to sit on, a
plate of food or a beverage to share, money to shop with, and a
willingness to get to know your fellow community members.
For the most part, this is a pretty casual event and a great way to
meet others in this community. If you feel inspired to perform for
us, bring your music and contact Samira when you arrive. If you want
to just join in the open dances, wear a hip scarf and jump up to
enjoy the fun. Sometimes we have vendors, and sometimes we don't.
Every Hafla is different and brings new faces to our community. We
hope to see you there.
If you are planning on dancing or vending, please contact me off list
at samira @ bellydanceintensive.com
$5 + a plate of food to share (kids 12 and under are free)
Happy Dancing,

Re: February Community Hafla Saturday 21st, 2009
Sun, February 22, 2009 - 10:46 PMIt really was a lovely hafla. (And Amira, I'm so sad you were so ill that you had to miss it. Your troupe did a beautiful job...you would be proud!!)
It's always especially delightful to see new faces at the haflas...and this time was no exception. There were many new folks, and I genuinely think that everyone had a nice time.
I'm grateful to Sandi/Shamar, who brought her group of students from the Las Vegas Athletic Club. These ladies did a really stellar job. It's so scary to dance your first performance, let alone do it in front of your peers, but they were great.
And then Shamar and Amaya did a repeat performance of the "Tap-a-ret" performance that they did originally at Tribal Nights. What fun to see a bellydancer performing to the rhythm of a tap dancer. The fusion possibilities are endless.
The second set offered two different performances that had Flamenco influences. Reema did a juicy solo with spanish accents and Amira's troupe (sans Amira), Raqaseen, did a Flamenco set with strong arm styling and turns.
Our final set started with an improvisational piece from Iolanka. She has some powerful isolations and strong Tribal Fusion expressions...and if we hadn't announced it was an improv, most of us probably wouldn't have known she was doing it all on the fly.
I was very excited to have Mandanah perform for us. She is a recent transplant to Vegas from the Bay Area and we have a new jewel in our community! I haven't seen anyone perform with zill like she did in ages!! Seriously breathtaking!! (um...yeah...I want lessons!!)
And I was equally excited to have one of our local professionals, Estella, take time off of work to join us at the Hafla. What a treat to have her perform for us!! She was simply stellar to watch.
Thanks so much to Sandi & her husband (his name is escaping me at the moment), and Teresa...who all stuck around and helped me clean up, keep an eye on my sick daughter, and assisted one of our new local dancers who had some car issues. Our "after-hafla-parking-lot-party" wouldn't have been as enjoyable without you. And Rana, I seriously hope you forgive the jumper cable fiasco.
Much love,
Samira
